Lulu's Pop-up

Running Wednesday through Sunday nights in the first two weeks of October, Lulu's is taking over the kitchen in rock'n'roll bar, the Midnight Special in Newtown. With daily changing specials, the menu offers eyebrow-raising combos such as crumbed al pastor chicken katsu sandwiches and jalapeno hush puppies, but the real star is their California-style tamales. The traditional Mexican steamed snack pocket come in both meat (12-hour chipotle pork shoulder) and vegetarian (slow-roasted sweet potato with Oaxacan cheese) options. A quarter of the proceeds will be donated to OzHarvest, a food rescue charity that collects excess commercial food and gives it to those in need.
