According to her handler, Prema, Naughty the goat more than earns her name. The two year old, who shares quarters with a pig, a sheep, and several roosters, is a cheeky toddler with a taste for Prema’s prized plants. We sat down with Ms Naughty to talk about life in one of Sydney’s most popular cafés.

Hi Naughty, we hear you’re a bit of a handful. Is this true?

Did Prema say that? Just because I try and bust out of my pen sometimes and I can’t be trusted off my leash on our morning walks, I’m labelled a handful. Geez, you eat 15 plants and everyone turns against you!

How do you like living and working at the Grounds?

It’s amazing. I get to live and work with some of the best in the business, people and animals. Plus, my one true love, Barry the sheep, is here, so I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

And what do you do to earn your keep here?

My main job is to make the child visitors smile. I like to jump up and lean on the fence so I can get a good look at them, and talk to them and their parents about what’s happening in the world.

The Grounds is known for its wonderful food, as well as its wonderful animals. What are your staff meals like?

I’m on a strict diet of grains and seeds, which is pretty boring, but Barry says I look great. I call it the anti-paleo diet. About once a week though, Prema gets two gluten-free cupcakes – one for him and one for me – and we eat them together. He’s a great boss.
