Ring in the new year with something different – a sleepover on Cockatoo Island

Want to watch Sydney’s New Year's Eve fireworks without crowds, traffic and long walks? Cockatoo Island offers an excellent vantage point to watch the colourful display light up the night sky, with accommodation included. You can camp, glamp or stay in restored Heritage Houses and apartments.

There's plenty of entertainment on offer beyond the bright lights. You can join guided tours exploring the Island’s convict and shipbuilding history, there are games, crafts and a massive scooter track for the kids, movies in the Wolverine Cinema and live music for the countdown to 2019.

The minimum stay for fully kitted-out glamping and camping packages is two nights from Dec 30-Jan 1, but if you have your own gear you can book a clear site for a sleepover just on NYE. Prices range from $450-$2400 for 2-6 people. Get in quick – these tend to book out before November.
