At the pinnacle of glamorous New Year’s Eve celebrations is the Opera Australia event – an evening of fine dining, arias and operettas, bookended by a view of the midnight fireworks from Sydney’s best vantage point.

Guests are invited to customise their night in a glitzy choose-your-own adventure. There’s the option to start with a pre-performance dinner in the Opera House foyer, where diners will be served a three-course menu designed by Matt Moran (Aria, Chiswick) matched with Katnook Estate wines.

From there, you can choose between two performances – head to the Concert Hall to hear popular arias by Verdi, Puccini and Rossini, or make your way to the newly renovated John Sutherland Theatre for The Merry Widow’s premiere, starring international soprano Danielle de Niese.

Intervals will be meticulously timed so that guests can catch the 9pm fireworks, and once the final note of each performance has been sung, you’ll be invited to the Midnight Party in the northern foyer, where canapés, drinks, dancing and live entertainment will build atmosphere and excitement until the midnight fireworks light up the harbour.
