Time Out says

Rain, hail or shine, let the games begin at Surry Hills @Play festival’s Play Day with kids maker markets, cardboard creations, music, food and more

Put your party pants on and get ready to play. Surry Hills @Play festival is throwing an epic, feelgood festival on Sunday, April 30 and everyone is invited. For one fun-filled day, Shannon Reserve will transform into a wonderland of activity, with entertainment and activities for the young and the young at heart.

Play Day is the biggest possible ending to the Surry Hills @Play festival, an inaugural month of fun and games designed to celebrate the neighbourhood’s creative spirit while supporting local businesses.

Forget iPads and expensive board games – at Surrytopia, kids can let their imaginations run wild and create a village from recycled cardboard with Melbourne cardboard crusaders, Boxwars. The creativity of our younger generation will also be on showcase at Play Day’s kids' makers markets, offering everything from handmade jewellery to lip balms, soap and baked goods.

Don’t forget to bring your four-legged friends too. You can be transformed into your pooch by Australia’s body paint champion at the face paint stand or strut your stuff with them in Play Day’s Best in Surry dog and owner fashion parade, judged by resident drag queen Carmen Deg It at Dog HQ – the Carrington Hotel, Surry Hills from 2pm.

Having fun is hungry work so make sure to refuel and support Surry Hills’ favourite local businesses including Crown Street Public School’s taco stall
