Pyrmont Festival kicks off on May 13

The seventh annual Pyrmont Festival kicks off on Saturday May 13th with a 15-day series of wine tasting dinners across the Pyrmont and Ultimo peninsula

City sophistication meets country charm with the return of Pyrmont Festival.

Pyrmont and Ultimo chefs will once again join forces with some of the Mudgee region’s most celebrated wineries to design degustation menus. 

Each course on these menus is specially prepared to complement a different Mudgee wine, and diners will have the opportunity to meet the winemaker as well as the chef.

Here is the full program of degustations:

Sat May 13 Bar Zini + First Ridge Wines/Manners Wines
Pyrmont’s own little slice of Florence presents Italian food with wines from First Ridge. The three-course meal is $89 including matching wines. Bookings: 02 9660 5718.

Wed May 17 Made in Italy + Bunnamagoo Estate
Made in Italy offers a four-course degustation meal for $49: mini board of stuffed baby artichoke, spaghetti alle vongole, Wagyu beef tagliata, and homemade Torroncino semifreddo paired with Bunnamagoo Estate wines. Bookings: 02 9518 8182.

Thu May 18 Persian Room + Naked Lady Wines
Authentic Persian cuisine in the historic Jones Bay Wharf with water views. Degustation menu matched with wines from Naked Lady. Bookings: 02 9692 9299.

Sat May 20 Blue Eye Dragon + Gilbert Family Wines
Award-winning restaurateur Muriel Chen hosts a multi-course banquet at the Heritage Street Bede’s Church Hall matched to wines from Mudgee’s Gilbert Family Wines. Bookings: 02 9518 9955.

Sun May 21 Metro Hotel + Moothi Estate
The newly opened Gumtree Restaurant offers a four-course degustation of chilli chicken tenderloin; pan-seared scallops; charred Riverina eye fillet; and a dessert of coconut and lime panna cotta. It's $80 per head, matched with Moothi Estate wines. Bookings: 02 9211 1499.

Wed May 24 Apprentice + Peterson’s Wines 
The rising stars of Sydney’s hospitality industry prepare a four-course meal of stuffed zucchini flowers, Hiramasa kingfish ceviche, braised beef cheek and roast pineapple, matched with Peterson’s Wines for $75 per person. Bookings: 02 9217 5527.

Thu May 25 Flying Fish + Burnbrae Wines
An innovative four course dinner will be served in an industrial chic space with sweeping harbour views. Expect vanilla cured ocean trout, yellowfin tuna, lamb loin and apple mousse all matched with Burnbrae Wines for $120 per person. Bookings: 02 9518 6677.

Fri May 26 Café Morso + Vinepera Wines
On the water’s edge of Jones Bay Wharf, a finely crafted degustation menu will be matched with Vinifera wines. Bookings: 02 9692 0111.

Sat May 27 Pizzaperta + Di Lusso Estate
To conclude the Pyrmont Festival, Pizzaperta will offer gourmet pizza with toppings from the Pyrmont Growers Market paired with Mudgee Wines from Di Lusso Estate. Bookings: 1800 700 700.

The centrepiece of the festival is a free, two-day family friendly event at Pirrama Park on May 20-21 that features live music, fairground rides, children’s entertainment and an exhibition of artworks from local and Mudgee-based artists.
