From grand rooms with gorgeous views to idyllic venues in the heart of nature, here’s where to start your search.

The 9 best Sydney wedding venues

The luxury Sydney gem: The Guest House, Park Hyatt Sydney

With its quiet perch at the top of The Rocks, Park Hyatt Sydney is in a league of its own special. It has a little something to do with the fact that you score uninterrupted views of the Sydney Opera House. Add in a dedicated team and bespoke service to tailor things just to your style, and you’ll barely need to lift a finger in the planning process. At the hotel’s Guest House, you’ll get access to a private kitchen where chefs can stage a live food demonstration for your guests, from a caviar bar to freshly piped cannoli. With an outdoor terrace (also with views of the Opera House) that you’ve got freedom to deck out with cocktail carts, and DJs to your heart’s desire. It’s also the only hotel in Sydney that can host a private outdoor barbecue with views of The Sails. Also with an extremely DIY approach to the menu (there’s everything from alternate drops to a petits fours menu), this one’s perfect for the couple looking to party their way.

The secluded nature escape: Audley Dance Hall, Royal National Park

If getting married barefoot sounds like your kind of nuptials, then boy have we got the place for you. Audley Dance Hall is the epitome of being grounded in some of Australia's most beautiful greenery. You’ll find this venue tucked in Sydney's historic Royal National Park, with views of the idyllic Hacking River. Everything is done in-house, from your ceremony to your reception, so you can leave it all in talented hands. The refurbished Dance Hall has rustic charm, and the terrace is the perfect backdrop for drinks and canapés. There’s also the Audley Ranger’s Cottage for a small group like your wedding party to stay the night.

The cultural statement: Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney

There aren’t many places as timeless to host a wedding as the Art Gallery of NSW. Many couples take advantage of the towering columns, sandstone interiors and Grand Court space for engagement or wedding photo shoots but why not extend your stay? The restaurant and function room in the old Naala Nura building can host up to 116 guests, and now you can also extend your party to the Kaldor Hall with art as your backdrop. For something more modern, there’s MOD. dining and the large Meers Hall in the new Naala Badu building. Let Fresh Collective take care of the food and drink (with Matt Moran and Sharon Winsor at the helm).

Capacity: Up to 350 guests cocktail

Price: From $215 pp (food only)

The greenery terrace: Centennial Homestead, Centennial Park

Set in sprawling parklands and with floor-to-ceiling glass bi-fold doors, a wedding at Centennial Homestead feels like a whimsical greenhouse garden party. For those looking to entertain larger crowds, it’s certainly got the space from The Paddock to the Wisteria Room. Unlike most CBD venues, this one has plenty of free parking, all while still being a stone’s throw away from the city. There’s a beautiful lawn space you can use for pre-ceremony drinks in golden hour and outdoor terraces for guests to mingle on throughout the night.

Capacity: 670 seated, 1000 cocktail

Price: From $115 pp (food only)

The gourmet banquet with a view: The Dining Room, Park Hyatt Sydney

There aren’t many wedding venues where you can open floor-to-ceiling windows to hear the lapping of Sydney Harbour’s water mere metres away. If you’re looking for something a little refined, then The Dining Room at Park Hyatt Sydney is your spot. It sets the scene for a regal head table that has panoramic views of the Sydney Opera House and the option for a gorgeous breeze on a balmy summer night. An exquisite dining experience serves up fresh regional Australian produce on a silver platter – choose from canapés, share platters, plated menus, and more. The wedding doesn’t start or end with the reception – check out packages for rooms with iconic views to get ready in the morning or spend the night as a married couple, and do future you a favour by checking out The Spa’s treatment menu, including luxurious La Mer experiences.

Capacity: 90 people

Price: From $90 pp (food only)

The heritage-listed budget hero: Paddington Town Hall, Paddington

This clocktower landmark on Oxford Street has been around since the late 1800s and gets more charming by the day. With a nine metre-high ceiling and Art Deco flourishes, it’s the perfect venue to deliver on wow-factor however you want to dress it up – especially given how low the cost is to hire out the impressive space. You can bring along your caterer of choice and there’s an elegant foyer area and balcony for pre-party drinks.

Price: Venue hire from $4,140

The DIY garden party: Lindesay House, Darling Point

It’s hard to say which is more beautiful: Lindesay House or its lush green gardens overlooking Sydney Harbour. Take some old-world glamour photos in the intimate Parterre garden and hire the garden space to do as you please. There’s a marquee available, and a kitchen on-site that your desired external vendors can use. Lindesay House can only host a small number of events with up to 100 people per year, but if you’ve got a wedding of 60 or less, you’ve got an even better chance at securing this great-value blank canvas for your special day.

Capacity: 60-100 people

Price: Venue hire $7,550 (60 pax events), $10,900 (100 pax events)

The elevated wild card: Taronga Zoo, Mosman

If you’ve only been to Taronga Zoo to learn about fascinating wildlife, then you’ve missed a whole other (very luxurious) side to this Mosman perch. Taronga Zoo houses three different spots for an outdoor ceremony, and three more spaces to hold your reception, all with harbour views. The N’Galawa Terrace is on the function building’s second floor with curved floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook Sydney Harbour, the city skyline and the zoo. It adjoins the Gili Rooftop should you like to pair the spaces or you can opt for the Dalang Ballroom on the first floor with a private bar, and spectacular head table setup backed by the CBD skyline and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Capacity: 60-300 people

Price: From $200 pp (T&Cs apply, minimum spend)

The moody industrial vibe: Three Blue Ducks, Rosebery

The Three Blue Ducks team have made quite the name for themselves with a whole collective of dining experiences around regional NSW and Victoria. Their Rosebery venue delivers on rustic plates dished up in a heritage-listed warehouse. Most of the food is cooked either in the wood-fired oven or on a charcoal grill, promising a celebration to satisfy all the foodies out there. Opt for canapé style, alternate drop or share style and have fun with add-ons like an oyster bar or late-night snacks. Take a tour of the large space or pop in for lunch to check out if The Courtyard, The Deck or The Rosella Room is the best pick for you.

Capacity: 36-220 people

Price: From $95 pp (food only)
