Now, while we think the tooth-cracking toffee, pony rides, petting zoos and face-painting of your average, kid-focused fetes are also admirable adult activities, a fete for grown ups – complete with an opening night party, ever-present DJs, a bar and schedule of intriguing workshops – does sound like an awful lot of fun.
Turn Out is a new locally crafted Sydney market experience which promises top notch shopping, with more than 50 stalls in designer fashion, handmade accessories, ceramics and textiles, alongside an epic line-up of music curated by FBI Radio, and a chance to develop diverse skills and knowledge in creative workshops and talks.
The temporary high street is setting up at the Australian Technology Park’s Locomotive Workshops. It will include fashion and accessory brands like Milk and Thistle, Doodad and Fandango, Annie Hamilton and None of the Above. You can also explore a jungle of flowers, ferns and other foliage from the green thumbs at Tiny Paradise, More Plants and Leaf Supply.
When you take a break from the spree, you can check out a portable version of the popular Inner West Japanese restaurant Manmaru, be teleported to decades past with the retro cakes from Birgitta's Kitchen, or try traditional Vietnamese hawker-style fare from the Messy Group. Hopefully this’ll have you all fuelled up for workshops and talks covering everything from sustainable fashion and communication through gardening, to book-binding and basket-weaving.
The whole affair will be thrumming to a soundtrack produced by FBI Radio DJs, who will also be kicking off the event from 5pm on Friday, October 26, with opening night celebrations (and the pick of the litter from the markets). There’ll also be arcade games and pop-up activities. So let your sugar-mad inner child run wild and put this free weekend of fun in your calendar.
