Maria Alyokhina already faced imprisonment in Russia once. She performed a piece called ‘Virgin Mary, Banish Putin’ in Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. When she was charged again for her rebellious acts as founder of the Pussy Riot activist group, she fled – ankle bracelet and all.
She tells her story in Pussy Riot's Political Girl, a live event at Carriageworks with music by drummer Eric J. Breitenbach. Hear what it's like to found a protest group, to live in a country that grows more dangerous by the day and to speak out against a powerful force.
