WugulOra, meaning ‘One Mob’, starts with a traditional smoking ceremony to mark the morning of January 26. The event welcomes the day and shares in the strength and resilience of the world’s oldest living culture. The smoking ceremony flame will burn through the night on Me-Mel, also known as Goat Island, before travelling to Barangaroo in the morning.
The national anthem will be performed in both English and Eora before both the Aboriginal and Australian flags are raised on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. There will also be performances from dancers and singers including the Koomurri Aboriginal Dancers.
Due to current restrictions, this year the ceremony is a free ticketed event. Members of the public can register their interest here. WugulOra will also be broadcast live on ABC TV and ABC iview from 7.30am to 8.30am.
