Around Orange

Need an excuse to visit Orange? Consider this your invitation. From October 16–25, the Orange Wine Festival gives you ten days of more than 40 wine-fuelled events, from long lunches and lively night markets to tastings and masterclasses to enjoy. So, what makes Orange wine so special? It’s all about the altitude – and a little bit of attitude. Vineyards climb from around 600 to more than 1,000 metres above sea level, making this Australia’s highest wine region. Perched on the slopes of Mount Canobolas / Gaanha Bula, they benefit from cool nights, a long growing season and rich volcanic soils, creating distinctive cool-climate wines. During the festival, the region’s winemakers, vignerons, sommeliers, chefs and restaurateurs throw open their doors for a taste of Orange – and there’s far more on the menu than a standard cellar-door visit. 16 October | Night MarketsStart the festival with a stroll through Robertson Park, glass in hand, as local winemakers pour their award-winning wines and chefs dish up the best of Orange produce.
