There’s something special about NSW’s Central Coast. Golden beaches, a laid-back energy, ever-developing food scene, hot live music offerings and the fact that it’s just a breezy 90-minute drive north of Sydney. And this is the perfect time to pack the car and head up the M1 (or take the train). With a stacked calendar of events – many of them free – and a coastline in all its glory, there’s never been a better excuse for a weekend escape. Think markets, outdoor gigs, delicious food and plenty of spots to soak up the views.

So, whether you’re keen for an affordable local getaway or simply not ready to go into hibernation just yet, pack your bags, queue up your road trip playlist and hit the road. Here’s your guide to the best things to do on the Central Coast this June.

4 things to do on the Central Coast

Returning across the June long weekend, the Central Coast Harvest Festival is set to take over the region with a weekend-long celebration of local food across six rural hubs. Farmers will be on hand to give you a glimpse behind the gates with tours, fruit picking and the chance to feed the animals. Plus, Glenworth Grazing Festival is back with plenty of local produce to buy and live music to enjoy and for the first time, Harvest Nights extends the festival after dark with late-night events including an open-air cinema under the stars. Kicking off from Saturday, June 6 until Sunday, June 7, head here for the full program.

While the Central Coast might be best known for its laid-back beach towns and stunning stretch of coastline, it's also a hub for makers and creators. Enter Creative Journey: an open studio art trail across the Central Coast with more than 60 spaces to explore. Running from June 6 to June 8, you can take a self-guided trail at your own pace where you’ll meet artists, see works in progress and hear the stories behind the work, take hands-on workshops and purchase original artworks straight from the maker.

Get a taste of Wyong on a foodie trail through the town centre and you might just find your new favourite dish. Head down early on Saturday, June 6 from 10am to 1pm and find roving entertainment, giveaways and local restaurants selling five-dollar tasting boxes full of seasonal samples. No need to leave the kids behind, this is a family affair with plenty of activities for all ages.

Every Friday and Saturday until June 6, make your way to Ettalong Beach and Toukley Village Green for sunset sessions soundtracked by free live music. From 4pm, local talent and emerging artists will take to the stage during golden hour, serving up the perfect excuse to roll out the picnic rug and settle in for a while. Grab your mates and some dinner and enjoy two hours of good tunes and dreamy views.
