The highest spot for a Tokyo restaurant on the list belongs to Den, which came in at No 20. Beloved for its contemporary take on traditional kaiseki cuisine, the restaurant was also named the Best Restaurant in Asia for 2022. Following Den is French-Japanese restaurant Florilège at No 30 and Narisawa at No 45. All three restaurants were also featured in last year’s top 50 list.

Taking top honours in the 2022 rankings of World’s 50 Best Restaurants is Geranium in Copenhagen, which bumped Noma from its number one spot last year. Another notable restaurant to make this year’s list is La Cime in Osaka; the modern French restaurant entered the top 50 for the very first time at No 41.

The World's 50 Best Restaurants list is based on votes by over 1,000 international restaurant and culinary experts. The results were released at an official ceremony on July 18, which you can rewatch online here.

Along with the top 50 list, an additional lineup of 50 more restaurants were released and it includes two more Tokyo spots. These honourable mentions go to Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant Sazenka (No 59) and Sézanne (No 82), the Michelin-starred French restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi.
