Arguably the most exciting award show of the season, encompassing the very best of the year's television and film productions, the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards will air live on January 8, 2017 at 8pm on NBC and will be hosted by comedian Jimmy Fallon.

Leading this year's nominations (seven, including best picture, best director, best actor and best actress) in the film department is Damien Chazelle's La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Moonlightthe coming of age story of a young, gay black man, received six nods, including a best director nomination for Barry Jenkins and best supporting actors nominations for Naomie Harris and Mahershala Ali.

In the television department, commercially and critically acclaimed This Is Us was recognized in the best television series (drama) category and earned stars Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz nominations for best performance by an actress in a limited series or motion picture made for television after a mere 10 episodes on the air. Predictably, the year's much talked about The Night Of The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story and Stranger Things were extensively recognized as well, reminding us of the abundance of good television we've witnessed in 2016.

Overall, the nominations seem to be a mixture of surprises (Tom Ford, yes, that Tom Ford in the best director category for Nocturnal Animals), a few majorly expected nods (Manchester by the SeaWestworld) and the very reminder that the world does, indeed, go round and still makes some sort of sense (Meryl Streep makes her annual appearance, this time for Florence Foster Jenkins).
