Since the pandemic went berserk earlier in 2020, many eateries have had adapted themselves to give out their service to people in quarantine (and also to survive themselves). We have recongized a handful of good delivery-based restaurants that serve quality takeaways and thought you might be interested to try.

The owners of Fowlmouth, the eatery that sears our tongues with its take on Nashville-style fried chicken, now brings us an eatery devoted to eggs.

Set within the new The Commons in Sala Daeng, Crackhouse offers an all-day breakfast menu that includes a delicious breakfast burrito filled with goodies like scrambled eggs, crispy Tater Tots, sharp cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, and your choice of either smoked bacon (B240) or chorizo sausage (B270) from Sloane's. If you’re a fan of pancake sandwiches, you will definitely love Crackhouse’s Crackgriddle (B220) – a take on the infamous McGriddles that sandwiches maple sausage, cheddar, and omelette in between two fluffy pancakes.

You can also order their pancakes (B160/3 pieces, B220/5 pieces) with blueberry as a sweet ending to your meal. Wash down all these filling treats with freshly-pressed orange juice (B150) or Roots coffee (B100).

Crackhouse is now on soft opening and offers a 20% discount on all items.

“There are actually loads of Sichuan eateries in the city, but none of them do what we do,” Suppasin “Win” Jongjeamdee and Paramee “Tuck” Thomchotpong, the two founders of the new delivery-based Sichuan restaurant Lhorlao Home Kitchen, affirm.

Win and Tuck were once exchange students in Sichuan, China where they discovered the province’s reputation for numbing hot cuisine. Having developed an intense gusto for Sichuan fare, they couldn’t help but flame this passion once they got back to Bangkok.

And so Lhorlao Home Kitchen was born. The name is a combination of “Thonglor”, where the kitchen is located, and “lao”, the Teochew word for restaurant. The Lhorlao crew and Chef Ratthawoot Hemathulin—a veteran chef who has years of experience in high-end hotels like Hilton, Avani, and Pullman—collaborate to come up with all menus that you can basically find in most Sichuan eateries, but here it’s done with much love and care.

The ubiquitous mapo tofu (B180) stays true to its origins with a mildly spicy sauce on top of scrumptious pork and tofu, whereas other Sichuan stars like kung pao chicken (B220), Sichuan dry-fried green beans (B160), and twice-cooked pork (B230) all give the familiar zing and tongue-numbing hit of mala, one of the signature flavors of Sichuan cuisine.

The delivery service also has more creative dishes. There’s a grilled 250-gram pork glazed with five spices and mala seasoning (B290) that will surely appeal to meat lovers, and Lhorlao’s Chinese Stir-Fried Tomatoes & Eggs (B150), which can be considered equivalent to the stir-fried chicken with sweet basil that’s common in many Chinese households.

But of all the dishes its offers, Lhorlao recommends its spare ribs and potato stew (B290) the most. This Chinese stew has soft-to-the-bite pork ribs and big potato chunks that soak up an aromatic and delicious sauce. It’s a bit heavy, but definitely one you need to try.

To a certain extent, dining in a traditional Sichuan eatery may not be a pleasant experience. They’re usually cramped and busy and have so many things going on. With Lhorlao, you can escape the chaos but have your share of spicy Sichuan flavors in your own home.

Lhorlao Home Kitchen is open daily during 10:30-14:00 and 16:00-21:30 only for delivery, which you can order via  LINEMAN, Grab, and Gojek. Drop them a call at 09 6016 0953 for more information.

We’re trying not to overstate this, but surely, for a majority of Thais, the ultimate comfort food is curry and rice or khao gang. This dish is simple: plain rice topped with a curry, and served with  stir-fried or deep-fried sides. Shops and stalls selling this street food favorite are a dime a dozen in Thailand.

But these days, when we’ve somehow gotten used to the idea of not leaving the house to get food, the idea of having khao gang delivered sounds like a tempting prospect, one that RICEGANG is all too happy to fulfil.  The new delivery shop is all about bringing the comfort offered by this ubiquitous street food right to your doorstep. It even steps us the khao gang game by using mostly locally-sourced ingredients and using healthy recipes.

For each bowl (starts at B90), you can choose to pair brown rice, Riceberry rice or quinoa (add B40) with the many curries and side dishes they have on the roster. But Ricegang also has signature bowls for those who don’t know where to start. These include the Gangstir Bowl Signatures (B320), a bowl with quinoa, spicy and sour soup with roasted prawns and coconut shoots, stir-fried chicken breast and sweet basil, and vegetarian green curry; and the Gangstir Bowl Protein (B360), a power-boosting meal comprised of brown rice, fried egg, panang curry with meatballs, stir-fried chicken and coconut shoots, and grilled sea bass.

RICEGANG accepts orders via Line Man from Mondays to Saturdays (11:00 to19:00). For more information, contact the team via LINE Official (@ricegangstir) or Facebook.

Hidden on Soi Sukhumvit 23 is the new Mexican eatery Tortilla Quemada, which promises comida Mexicana that will make you scream, “Me gusta!”

This eatery is run by Colin Stevens, the same restaurateur behind BBQ joint Ash Kickers on Soi Phatthanakan 30. The American chef, who’s logged in 20 years of experience in the Bangkok food scene, has a strong passion and affection for Mexican food, and wanted to share this passion with the rest of the city.

Unlike Ash Kickers, where you can sit down and relish the food and good convos, Tortilla Quemada is stylized for a grab-and-go system. The menu includes a wide range of Mexican staples, from quesadillas (B190 to 240), to enchiladas (B220 to 290), to tacos (from B110), to chips and guacamole (B180).

Each dish can be had with any of their nine homemade salsas, each one representing a certain degree of spiciness. Our pick is the burning hot habanero salsa, which adds a banging zing to tortillas and tacos. Each dish can also be made with the meat of your choice, be it chicken, lamb, pork or beef.

Tortilla Quemada will be expanding its space for dine-in experiences very soon but, for now, call them at 06 5237 3307 or visit their Facebook page to make an order. Tortilla Quemada is open from Tuesdays to Sunday, 11:00 to 21:00.

Vistro has filled in a gap that seemed to be missing in the city’s herbivore scene, offering the most creative takes on typical vegan fare. The vegan dishes here are so flavorful that a carnivore may even consider going full vegan after a meal. The two-story establishment is airy, plant-filled and sizeable. The first floor is perfect for grabbing small healthy bites and drinks to go, while the second floor is where all the creative dishes are served. Don’t miss the Vistro Dumplings, a moreish snack served with Taiwanese-style chili oil and gyoza sauce, and the Habibi Wrap, which stuffs marinated “chicken,” iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, and bell pepper in a soft wheat tortilla. End your meal with a gooey brownie topped with a scoop of vegan ice cream. Their house-made kombucha and wellness lattes are also a must. Check out their Facebook page as they often host vegan weekend brunch with pancakes, smoothie bowls and savory waffles.

Those who have been to or lived in the States, or have consumed a lot of American media must have seen images of a farang holding up a small white paper box in one hand while awkwardly gripping chopsticks with another. In this box is tasty, stir-fried Chinese takeout fare like kung pao chicken or chow mein that’s been given the American treatment.

Now Bangkokians can have the same takeout box experience, courtesy of Wok Star Express, the latest delivery-based American-Chinese food stall run by American entrepreneur Kirk Stucker.

“Here, it’s all about the original way to serve Chinese food in America,” says Stucker. He’s hoping to bank on the nostalgic sensibilities of those who’ve had the experience and find comfort in eating their Chinese takeout from a box.

The menu includes a wide array of dishes, from stir-fried items with hot steamed rice to sizzling rice and noodles. The most popular dish would be the kung pao chicken (B220), which pairs deep-fried chicken drizzled with flavorful black sauce with cashew nuts.

The noodle options are also favorites. Choose between the chow mein noodles topped with various vegetables and your choice of meat like roasted duck, chicken, barbecued pork or beef (price starts at B160), or the Singapore noodles (B240).

Other Chinese staples also make it to the menu and shouldn’t go unnoticed. There’s the sweet and sour pork (B190), which comes with a “banging” sauce, and Mongolian beef tenderloin (B270).

No American-Chinese takeout menu would be complete without orange chicken (B200), a breaded chicken dish with a thick sweet sauce that’s purely that’s credited to Americans. They also have a lemon sauce alternative if you want your chicken more tangy than sweet.

Wok Star Express is located in Thanon Pan in Sathorn and has a small area for walk-in diners (limited seats available). Delivery is available on all food delivery service platforms every day (except Tuesdays) from 11:30 to 22:00.

Whether you’re an expat, a one-time student in the US, or just a Bangkokian who’s curious about American-Chinese food, Wok Star Express is here to wok you hard.
