Her sene olduğu gibi bu sene de heyecanla beklenen 2018 Oscar adayları sonunda belli oldu! Adaylar arasındaki sürpriz isimler kadar aday listesine giremeyenler de herkesi şaşırtırken Hollywood’un “çeşitlilik" sorununda nispeten iyileşme olması gözlerden kaçmadı. 90 yıllık Oscar tarihinde ilk defa bir kadın görüntü yönetmeni Oscar’a aday gösterildi ve 5. defa bir kadın yönetmen adayı açıklandı. En son 8 yıl önce Kathryn Bigalow bu ödüle aday gösterilmiş ve ödülü kazanan ilk kadın yönetmen olarak adını Oscar tarihine yazdırmıştı. ’Moonlight’tan sonra Jordan Peele imzalı ‘Get Out’ filminin de birçok dalda ödüle aday gösterilmesi Oscar’da olumlu gelişmeler olduğunu gösteriyor. Bu seneki adaylar arasında en çok göze çarpan film; en iyi film, en iyi yönetmen, en iyi senaryo ve oyunculuklarla tam 13 adaylıkla yarışacak olan Guillermo del Toro’nun masalsı eseri ‘Shape of Water’ oldu. Tom Hanks, James Franco ve Jessica Chastain’in oyunculuklarıyla, Steven Spielberg’ün de yönetmen kategorisinde aday olmaması üzücü oldu.
