That's right, Puchong residents. As part of RapidKL's ongoing Ampang Line Extension Project (which launched with the opening of four new stations in October last year), the LRT operator has announced that four more stations – IOI Puchong Jaya, Pusat Bandar Puchong, Taman Perindustrian Puchong and Bandar Puteri – will start operating on Thursday, March 31.

This checks off eight new stations out of the planned 11 in the extension project. According to RapidKL, the remaining three stations namely Puchong Perdana, Puchong Prima and Putra Heights will only open at the end of June, coinciding with the opening of the 12 new stations on the Kelana Jaya Line Extension Project. Recap: upon completion of all the new stations, the two lines will meet at Putra Heights.

The announcement shows a slight change to initial plans of completing the Ampang Line extension by the end of March – those living closer to the last three stations will have to wait a little longer than expected – but let's just focus on the fact that Puchong is getting the long-overdue rail connection it deserves.

Good to know: three of the four new Puchong stations will have park-and-ride facilities (due to space limitations, Bandar Puteri will not have designated parking bays), and these stations will even have parking spots for bicycles. As with the other new stations in the line extension that uses a new signalling system and six-car AMY trains, you'll need to get off at Sri Petaling and switch trains to get to Awan Besar and beyond until RapidKL fully implements this signalling system across the entire line.
