Today we woke up to the release of Pokémon Go, finally. To the uninitiated, Pokémon Go is a worldwide craze at the moment. It is a location-based, augmented reality smartphone game where you explore the real world to discover and catch animated creatures known as Pokémon. The game utilises your phone’s GPS signal and of course your mobile data to find, capture and train these Pokémons, which will appear on your screen as if they were real, around you.

The game was launched in selected countries in early July and since then everyone’s been hoping that it will be available in Malaysia soon. And now it is. We played the game today at Publika for just a little more than an hour, resting once for coffee, and we’ve already caught 18 different types of Pokémons. Check out our Poké-squad.

 Rattata, Ekans, and Jigglypuff.

 Poliwag, Eevee, and Abra.

We’ve also got Squirtle, Goldeen, Caterpie, Weedle, Kakuna, Pidgey, Spearow, Nidoran, Zubat, Paras, Venonat, and Mankey. However, we lost out on Haunter, Golbat and Metapod (pictured above). These guys were tough to catch. What we’ve noticed is, there seems to be a congregation of Pokémon at and within the vicinity of Publika Square (the outdoor stage area), and there are several Poké Gyms and a whole lot more PokéStops (which are usually the sculptures and graffiti scattered all over the mall).

Tell us what other Pokémon you have caught, and we could all go catch 'em all.

Download the game now on Apple App Store and Google Play. PS: For safety, remember to be alert of your surroundings while you're playing the game. Do not play while you're on the road or driving, and do not trespass.
