For the times when you can’t decide on what to eat, the food court rarely fails to provide a solution. Housing dozens of hawker stalls within the same area, a decent food court is where you can find some of the best streetfood staples like chicken rice, char kuey teow and beef noodles at affordable prices. Here are a few of our favourites.

The crowded corridors of Hutong are everything a mall food court should be. The food vendors here have been handpicked from the streets of KL and Penang to serve the most authentic hawker fare in the comfort of air-con. Fried oysters, beef ball noodles, roast pork, Hokkien mee, even pork burgers, you’ll find them all here. Just don’t expect hawker prices.

Those who miss Ming Tien in Taman Megah will be pleased to know that some of the popular stalls have moved over to its new premises in Bandar Utama. The three-level food court features over 40 stalls – including those that sold grilled fish, wan tan mee, satay, fish head curry and belacan fried chicken in the original locale – as well as a big screen for showing live sports. Dedicated parking spaces are limited, however, so it’s best to come early or face having to park at the side of the road.

Pavilion KL’s food court is always crowded, which is a promising sign of what it has to offer. Although the food court features the best of local fare and street food with stalls such as Thye Hong and Sarawak Cuisine, there are also non-local options like Teppanyaki, Pepper Lunch Express and Capriciossa.

This absolutely non-halal food court has all the Chinese hawker staples: wantan mee, curry mee, bak kut teh and more. Besides that, you can also find the Sarawakian speciality kolo mee, and a decent zhap fan spread for weekday lunches. If you need something light, there’s a pastry stall where you can get snacks.

You don’t need to travel far and wide to look for authentic Thai street food – not when they’re all gathered in Streat Thai. Here, you’ll find chefs from Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Rai, Khorat and Pattaya cooking up dishes from their hometowns; the beef noodles hits the spot, and the green curry chicken use spices imported from Thailand, so you know you’re getting the real deal.
