Admit it – you’re always on the lookout for the pretty places to take your next photo (we don’t blame you, social media certainly has taken over). Or if not you, you know someone who is. Here we have a list of spots that will help rack up the likes and populate your profile with great frames.

Merchant's Lane

If you didn’t already know, Merchant’s Lane – a former-brothel-turned café – is full of Instagrammable spots thanks to the variety of aesthetically pleasing nooks and corners within the space. From its narrow stairway to the quirky swinging chair against the raw backdrop of a cement wall, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Just a few doors away is Chocha, yet another café within a restored shophouse that’s filled with greenery and hipster furniture – a space we never get tired of seeing pop up on our feed.

Sentul Park

Nestled within the verdant Sentul Park are a few spots that may catch wandering eyes. Old railway buildings built by the British stand as ruins after being bombed just before the end of World War II, and further in is the klpac building with its colonial-style façade and adjoining modern-looking complex which both contrast and complement each other. If you’re looking to add red brick walls and high archways to your photos, here’s where to go.

Laman Seni 7

A collaboration between the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and KHZNH Studio transformed this back alley into an explosion of art in 2014. Since then some of the pieces have been updated, but this laman seni spanning two blocks is still filled with murals and installations by local artists. It’s an interesting space for photo ops, and a great place for those who appreciate street art and celebrate creativity. It may be a bit of a drive from the city, but it’s well worth the trip.

Tian Jing Hotel

Tian Jing Hotel

Located in the middle of Chinatown, this charming boutique hotel has all the trappings of a time gone by. It’s housed in a restored shophouse, and its façade is one that brings to mind traditional Chinese architecture and the quaintly charm of past generations. The café on the ground floor features bright teal walls and rattan furniture, making it a great spot for a photo (or two). Plus, classic old school tiles on the sidewalk make everything just that much more nostalgic.

APW Bangsar

APW Bangsar

Since it first appeared, the floating concrete staircase leading up to Makirito at APW has climbed the ranks to become one of the top spots for #POTD or #OOTD snaps at Bangsar. The simple grey concrete provides an excellent background for colours to stand out, and there will almost always be a line to take photos during weekends. Sit on the steps, stand in front of them – whichever way you choose, remember to make use of angles and the natural light for a great photo.
