Thomas Gainsborough

In spring 2027, Tate Britain will present a landmark exhibition marking the 300th birthday of one of the nation’s greatest portraitists, Thomas Gainsborough. Spanning from his youth in Suffolk to his portrait practice in Bath and London, to the landscape paintings he focused on in his later years, it will be the first major survey of the Georgian painter, draughtsman and printmaker’s work in over 20 years, and will bring together 120 paintings and drawings to examine his considerable influence on British art history.
