It's Chriiiiiiiiistmas! Spend it with strangers, see some swimmers shiver or go for a bike ride

Whether you're waiting for the turkey to roast or reeling from over-stuffing, you don't have to stay home! Here's some other ways to fill the big day.

Like getting up at the crack of dawn (probably earlier considering how late the sun rises these days, bah humbug) to witness the Peter Pan Cup, which involves the Serpentine Swimming Club diving into the Hyde Park lido at 9am for a brisk dip. Brrr.

If mornings aren't your thing, why not hop on your bike (or a Boris Bike) after lunch and work off some calories by marvelling at a deserted London?

You can ride beneath the quietly twinkling lights along Bond Street, Oxford Circus, Regent Street and The Strand. Roll through Covent Garden to see the magnificent silver reindeer and Lego Santa Express train (made out of 500,000 bricks) without being jostled, and don't forget to pass by Trafalgar Square's wonky Norwegian Christmas tree before heading home.

An alternative approach would be the gentler option of exploring the city by foot on a festive walking tour. Pretend its Christmas morning in 1660 and learn about The London of Samuel Pepys, experience the season like Charles Dickens or hear anecdotes about the capital's Exciting West End.

For those flying solo this season there's a big Community Chrimbo in Fitzrovia (pictured above). Everyone is invited to this free gathering, where they'll have games, films and food on offer, all you have to do is bring a small gift to donate to the local children's ward at the end of the day. 'Tis the season for giving, after all.

Last but not least, head to north London and join the Jews for some merriment. JW3, the Jewish community centre will be open all day, offering ice skating from 10am, a screening of 'Frozen' at 11.30am (for a fiver) and free craft workshops for children.

More jolly holiday events, activities and pop-ups to entertain you this Christmas.
