One of London’s best bars is (sort of) closing next year

One of our favourite bars in London is going through some changes. White Lyan, the ground-breaking cocktail bar on a Hoxton backstreet, is set to become less of a bar and more of a development space for the Mr Lyan brand after three years of boozy business. It’ll still take a limited number of drinks bookings here and there, but you’ll struggle to drop by casually for an amazing cocktail like you may have done in the past. That’s the bad-ish news over.

The good news is that White Lyan will be pushing the boundaries even further in its final year of regular trading. Never a team to rest on its laurels, the White Lyan crew are devising a new menu with a different theme every ten weeks. The current menu is called ‘Heaps Primal Bro’ and is based on basic animal instincts. The bar’s Maja Jaworska served us and explained that a lot of it is actually about sex, really (get in). Try it in the Wear Sunscreen, which smells like holidays and includes ‘libidinous bitters’ and the Kitnip Kooler, which offers heady escapism in the form of lettuce opium. And they’ve still got a classics menu if you’re checking White Lyan out for the very first (and maybe last) time.
