Christmas shindigs in London
The monthly LGBTQ+ pop party at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern throws its annual ‘Christmas pop extravaganza’. This time, they’re promising to play a generous helping of Kelis – as the event title suggests – but you can also expect to hear catchy festive bangers from Girls Aloud, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson and of course Mariah Carey.
The songwriting siblings pay tribute to their late mother, revered folk artist Kate McGarrigle, on the 10th anniversary of her final concert. All proceeds will go to the charitable fund founded in McGarrigle's honour, and the Wainwrights are promising a bumper three-hour runtime.
The ever-popular, super-fun indie and electro night hosts a free daytime party at a pop-up venue on the South Bank. Drop in for a drink or dance any time from 4pm, and expect to hear a few festive favourites from the likes of Wham!, The Pogues and East 17.
The final Sankeys London party of the year is a 10-hour epic featuring sets from Neverdogs, Roberto Surace, Tini Gessler, Alex Arnout and Andrew Kay. Seasons beats-ing at its finest, tbh.
There can be only one drag show to see at this time of year, and that’s the one vaguely inspired by the queen of Christmas herself – Mariah Carey. Put on your best festive frock (the more outlandish the better) and join the city’s premier queer-drag-circus-club night for some of the finest and filthiest Christmas cabaret around. And, once the show is over, head to the dancefloor for yuletide bangers.
Herr The Queen hosts a drag-fuelled celebration of all things Kylie Minogue – not Jenner, obv. All proceeds go to LGBTQ+ community shelter The Outside Project, so this Christmas party is equal parts glamour, camp bangers and altruism.
Make sure your festive season gets off to a gender binary smashing start at this telling of the birth of the Miss-iah, where Jesus is a drag king, the nuns are twins and together they’re here to heal the world of the patriarchy. And, as it’s Shesus’s birthday, gifts are actively encouraged.
London’s queer Jewish club night gets festive with an epic party that's billed as ‘Father Christmas meets Daddy Hanukkah’. They’re promising a mass chair dance-off, matchmaking drag kings and a performance ‘All I Want For Christmas Is Jews’, so this one is definitely a (playfully) subversive seasonal treat.
Sick and tired of hearing the same boring Christmas songs year after year? You haven’t heard them performed by the 10-piece brass band Old Dirty Brasstards. Listen in and prepare to move your feet as they breathe new life (literally) into some overplayed festive filler. Christmas carols will never be the same again.
The revered drum and bass label brings its ‘infamous’ – their words! – Christmas bash to Shoreditch dancing spot XOYO. With sets from Calyx & Teebee, DJ Randall, Shimon, Magnetude, Freek and loads more, it should definitely be epic.
Get festive with with the best Christmas music
As Noddy Holder once screeched: it’s Christmas! You might have heard some Christmas songs enough times to make you want to perforate your eardrums with a candy cane, but many festive pop songs are great works of art.
