Park Plaza London Westminster Bridge isn’t trying to compete with London’s five-star grande dames. With 1,023 rooms and suites, this hotel caters to the masses and is built for travellers who prioritise space, practicality and location over bellhops and whistles.
Inside, the lobby is buzzing and the hotel’s signature scent hangs thick in the air. On my visit, a Tanzanian conference had taken over the ground-floor event space with delegates moving about with purpose. The vibe is energetic in that big-business, big-hotel sort of way.
What are the rooms like at Park Plaza London Westminster Bridge?
You’ll encounter the hotel’s quirkiest design choice before you even reach your room. The corridor carpet – a chaotic print of words in various fonts, sizes and colours straight out of the "live, laugh, love" era – is visually… memorable. The in-room carpet shares the same design, alongside acrylic walls printed with motifs like ballerina dancers and flowers.
While I can't say that the hotel's design choices resonate with my personal aesthetic, the view from my Studio Room is undeniably gorgeous. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer sweeping views of Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. The room's layout is also smart and generous, with a separate seating area with a sofa bed that can fit two kids. There's also a microwave, a 49-inch Chromecast-enabled TV and an iron and ironing board, which makes it an ideal pick for slightly longer stays.
There are other thoughtful comforts, too. The bed is exceptionally comfortable, ESPA toiletries elevate the shower experience with their spa-like scent and there are various lighting options to help set the mood. That said, the room is not without its quirks. There isn't a bedside USB charging port if you're partial to the late-night doomscrool and soundproofing is limited with some hallway and traffic noise.
What are the restaurants and bars like at Park Plaza London Westminster Bridge?
With over a thousand rooms on property, the hotel ensures that there's always a place for you to eat, drink or take a breather. Brasserie Joël is a modern French restaurant with an extensive wine list; Ichi Sushi & Sashimi Bar satisfies any Japanese cravings; Primo Bar offers live music every Friday and Saturday, plus cocktails and bar bites; and illy Caffè is a handy stop for proper Italian coffee. There's also 24-hour room service for whenever jet-lag hunger hits.
What’s the service like at Park Plaza London Westminster Bridge?
Service here is efficient but not particularly warm. At check-in, the staff member took a while to acknowledge me, then handed over an info sheet and processed the booking without much interaction.
For a property of this size, it’s not unexpected, but travellers who enjoy personalised service should adjust expectations accordingly. Due to its 32 conference rooms, Park Plaza is known to cater to time-poor business travellers. Speed and efficiency are a key consideration. So, you can check out by QR code and breakfast is self-service.
What is the spa like at Park Plaza London Westminster Bridge?
Guests have access to a 15-metre indoor pool, a fully equipped fitness centre, sauna and steam rooms and the standout: Mandara Spa, a Bali-inspired retreat with warm woods, dim lighting, and Southeast Asian-style treatments.
What’s the area like around Park Plaza London Westminster Bridge?
The location is excellent. Waterloo and Westminster stations are both a five-minute walk away and you're in strolling distance to the London Eye, Southbank Centre, and the riverside path. For first-time visitors or travellers planning to sightsee, it’s one of the most convenient areas to base yourself.
It's a two-minute walk from Waterloo's Leake Street Arches, a 300-metre-long graffitied tunnel full of bars and restaurants, and five minutes from Lower Marsh, where a street market has been selling fresh produce since the 1800s.
Nearby, mix with the locals and to scoff down a proper Sunday lunch, head to The Old Red Lion in Kennington, a Grade II listed pub which dates back to the 1750s. Head to The Imperial War Museum, which is free to visit and shows how war impacts those who serve and the civilians left behind. And there's also The Old Vic, a not-for-profit theatre that puts on a range of shows throughout the year at its 1,000 seater venue. Expect jukebox musicals and Greek tragedies on its programme.
