Before there was Fortnite or Minecraft, there was Pokémon. It’s been nearly 30 years since the Japanese video game debuted, and it immediately became the talk of playgrounds across the world. In the three decades since, it’s been adapted into TV shows, plushies, mobile apps, and, perhaps most notably, a card game.
If you’re a Pokémon card aficionado, you might want to head to the Westfield in Shepherd's Bush next month, because there’s going to be an immersive installation setting up shop there from October 3-5.
The ‘Mega Evolution Experience’ is a celebration of the first anniversary of the Pokemon Trading Card Game app (Pokémon TCG Pocket), and will offer fans the chance to ‘explore some of the powerful Mega Evolution Pokémon cards in life-size, dynamic displays’, as well as learning some tips and tricks about the trading card game online.
You’ll get to try out the ‘walk-through experiential space’, as well as having a look at a pop-up museum which will teach you all about the history of the game, displaying ‘beautiful card artwork, missions, display boards, and cards animations’ through a series of huge screens.
As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also be able to watch exciting pack openings, and if you’re lucky you might even find someone to trade with.
Every visitor will also be given a ‘Stamp Rally’ card you can redeem on the Pokémon card game app for a special surprise: 24 Pack Hourglasses which are essential in gaining new cards. The app itself is a great way to enjoy playing with Pokémon cards without having to worry about losing or damaging them. You can do all the traditional card game things – collect them, trade them, and battle with them – but digitally.

The Westfield pop-up will be completely free to explore, and you don’t have to book ahead either. All you need to do is show up on one of the days it’s open and enjoy. There’s no age limits; everyone is welcome.
