Whether you back a good ol’ B&B or refuse to lay your head anywhere with fewer than five stars, there’s one thing we can agree on: not all hotels are made equal. Few things are less relaxing than lying awake atop a lumpy mattress or shelling out for a swanky suite only to be disappointed by less-than-luxe amenities.

Which is why, each year, the Time Out team sleeps our way across the city to bring you honest, up-to-date recommendations of the capital’s best stays. Each hotel on our top 100 list has been individually reviewed by Time Out’s editors and our pool of trusted hotel experts, with top picks for boutique digs, pubs-with-rooms, spa stays and foodie havens across the Big Smoke.

Topping the list this year is (drumroll please) Claridge’s. Yep, the glamorous art deco Mayfair haunt – easily one of the most iconic hotels in the world – officially offers the city’s best sleep.

‘Inarguably one of Europe’s finest hotels, Claridge’s has a top-to-bottom vibe that exudes art deco glamour, historical significance and smoky old-world naughtiness,’ said Time Out editor-in-chief Joe Mackertich, who reviewed the place.

As well as its 269 rooms, Claridge’s is also home to an impressive roster of culinary delights. As well as Claridge’s Restaurant and the Foyer (a delightful spot for a classic afternoon tea), there’s also L’Epicerie, an epic chef’s table experience where you get to dine in the middle of the bustling kitchen, and a moody 1930s cocktail room in the form of The Fumoir bar.

Still need convincing? How about the endless list of celebrity guests you’re likely to share a lift with? Yep, if it’s good enough for the Hollywood A-listers, it’s good enough for us too.
