Southeast Londoners, we’ve got some banging news – after six long years, Blackheath Fireworks is set to make an almighty return for Bonfire Night 2025

The huge fireworks display, once heralded as ‘London’s biggest free fireworks display’, was first called off by Lewisham Council in 2019 because of a lack of funding. Enough money was raised the next year for it to go ahead, but those plans were soon scuppered by the pandemic. The event has been on hiatus ever since due to financial pressures.

But no more! The council has now partnered with Slammin Events (the company behind the immense fireworks festival at Ally Pally) to finally bring the Bonfire Night celebration back.

The council has confirmed that this year’s event will take place on Saturday, November 1 from 4pm to 10.30pm. While it has been free to attend in previous years, the 2025 edition will come with an entry fee. The Blackheath Society has predicted that tickets will cost roughly £15 for over-16s and between £5 and £10 for children.

Plans submitted by Slammin Events propose a ‘one-day weekend event’ to be held between the last week of October and second week of November. It has applied for a premises licence that would allow it to put on a show for up to 29,999 people. The application will be presented to Lewisham Council’s licensing sub-committee on August 27.

Sakina Sheikh, the council’s cabinet member for culture, communities and sport said: ‘It has been a delight to bring this good news to the Borough! We know residents have to leave Lewisham each autumn to seek firework displays elsewhere in London and have been eager to find a way to bring back the Blackheath Fireworks. Now our residents can enjoy fireworks here at home in the Borough and invite visitors to join. We’re excited to partner with a leading events company to make this happen and are committed to making this return as accessible and affordable as we can.

‘We aim to keep ticket prices as fair as possible so that as many people as possible can enjoy the day. One way we are doing this is to reduce the site hire fee for the organisers to ensure that ticket prices are kept low, because we are putting our resident's experience first.’

More details on how to get tickets to Blackheath Fireworks 2025 will be released next month.
