Dover Street Counter has been one of the most hyped London restaurant openings of the past 12 months. Dubbed ‘Mayfair’s coolest new diner’ upon review by Time Out’s food and drink editor Leonie Cooper, it’s the companion to The Dover (currently our favourite restaurant in Mayfair) by restaurateur Martin Kuczmarski.
But Kuczmarski – who’s also behind Martino’s – certainly isn’t slowing down. Following the success of Dover Street Counter, he’s announced that a new restaurant called Chelsea Counter is open now.
Like Dover Street Counter, Chelsea Counter offers relaxed counter-style service inspired by the diners of Los Angeles in the late 1950s. The new spot is at Cadogan Gardens, just a few steps from the King’s Road and Sloane Square (and barely a few minutes’ walk from Martino’s).
Food-wise, Chelsea Counter will boast similar elevated comfort food to the Dover Street OG, including a four-cheese toastie, French dip and cheeseburger, alongside buttermilk fried chicken with hot honey and sesame, and purple potato crisps with San Marzano tomato salsa. Mains will include the likes of spaghetti all’assassina, spicy baked baby chicken, slow-cooked short rib with fries, and half lobster with herbed garlic butter.
The drinks list is margarita-led, with pineapple and lychee variations alongside classics. Like The Dover, Dover Street Counter and Martino’s, it’s a handsome spot (see below for a sneek peek).
Chelsea Counter opened today (November 2) at 39 Cadogan Gardens, SW3 2TB. Open midday till midnight, Mon-Sun. Book here.
