Daydreaming about getting out of the city? Check out our pick of places that are worth leaving the confines of the M25 for...

Swap that gingerbread latte for a traditional whisky-spiked hot toddy. Preferably at Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery where you can sip a steaming mug of the honeyed drink beside the Pitilie Burn, the stream that feeds the copper stills.

Home to a museum and working distillery, the site is in an easily accessible yet super-rural and totally enchanting corner of Scotland near the expanse of Loch Tay.

Arrive to the sweet smell of whisky and autumn in the air, then warm up with soup and scones before hitting the hard stuff. You can tour the distillery and sample fine Scotch whiskies from the cask – or even make, bottle and name your own blend (lab coats and puns not optional).

Sign up to the day-long Immersion Tour and you’ll finish your trip with whisky cocktails in hand, tucked away in a location so secret I’d need more than a few Golden Drams to spill the details.

Visit www.dewarsaberfeldydistillery.com to book, tours cost from £10.50-£120.
