After a two-month-long refurb, XOYO is set to reopen this week and re-establish its reputation as one of the capital’s top underground nightlife venues.
The late-night music venue was acquired, alongside Camden Assembly, by Propaganda Independent Venues in November, bringing it back under independent ownership. Its new owners said the goal was to turn XOYO into ‘a cultural hub for the area, offering opportunities and support to local artists and businesses’. The first step? A major makeover.
The owners have announced that the Shoreditch venue will reopen its doors once again this very week, on January 31. XOYO’s iconic basement has undergone a full redesign, and its Void soundsystem has been recalibrated so ravers get a better experience of the music.
And the sound isn’t all that’s been upgraded. XOYO’s stage and DJ booth have also been reconfigured to make nights at the venue more immersive and inclusive. Plus, custom-built LED cubes will give the basement a better glow.
Upstairs is now home to ‘The Jungle’, decked out with a new and improved sound system, redesigned booths, LED screens and – for garnish – an added bit of greenery.
New owner Kirk Allen said he was ‘excited to take over the legendary event space, XOYO and give it the attention and love it deserves. The reaction has been insane, so much love and support. We plan to bring special guests every weekend across all music genres. This isn’t a comeback, it's a reset.’
It’s no surprise that legendary music guests are top of mind for the venue’s new owners – XOYO is among London’s most storied clubs. Established in 2010, the Shoreditch basement club has hosted shows from Skepta, Fatboy Slim and Jamie xx, as well as countless legendary DJs including Bicep, Honey Dijon and Goldie.
XOYO’s opening party on January 31 will feature names like Fleur Shore, St David, BTAY, Tom Haigh, Nathan Payne, Another George and Shana G. Get tickets on the venue website here.
