As always, there’s loads on in London this weekend to keep you busy. Whether you’re going to the last bits of BFI London Film Festival, learning about hip-hop history at Somerset House, exploring the brand new Kew Gardens halloween train or getting stuck into the Black British Book Festival, you’ll likely be using public transport to get around.
This weekend is fairly heavy in terms of travel disruption in the capital – especially on Sunday, when quite a few different lines are facing part closures or reduced services. The Piccadilly line, Metropolitan line and DLR are among those with parts of the service being shut off for engineering works.
Here are all the planned disruptions to TfL train and tube lines this weekend, and the alternative services you can take instead.
RECOMMENDED: The best things to do in London this weekend.
London travel disruption and tube closures, October 17-19
District line
- Sunday October 19 – no service on the Richmond branch, meaning no trains will run between Turnham Green and Richmond. The replacement bus service DL3 hits all the stops which will be affected.
Metropolitan line
- On Saturday October 18 and Sunday October 19 there will be no service between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Uxbridge. A replacement bus – ML1 – will instead run between the two stations, stopping at all the same places except for Ruislip. Instead, it will go past West Ruislip for connections with the Central line.
Piccadilly Line
- On Saturday October 18 and Sunday October 19 the Piccadilly line Uxbridge branch will be closed. This means no trains will run between Acton Town and Uxbridge. There will be a replacement bus service in place – PL4 – but it will only go between Acton Town and Rayners Lane.
Waterloo & City line
- No surprises here – the aqua line only runs on weekdays.
Elizabeth line
- On Sunday October 19 there will be a reduced service between Paddington and Maidenhead/Heathrow Terminal 4, and Acton Main Line, West Ealing and Hanwell stations will all close completely.
- On Sunday, only two trains per hour will go to Terminal 4, West Drayton, Langley, Slough, Burnham and Maidenhead. Four trains every hour will serve Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3. Ealing Broadway, Southall and Hayes & Harlington will all see six trains per hour.
DLR
- On Sunday October 19 there will be a closure between Shadwell and Tower Gateway. Use local buses and other underground services instead.
Suffragette line
- On Friday October 17 the 11.03pm train from Barking Riverside to Gospel Oak will terminate instead at Upper Holloway at 11.38pm.
Mildmay line
- Sunday October 19 – no service between Richmond and Willesden Junction. The DL3 replacement bus service Willesden Junction and Richmond makes all of the same stops as the train.
Weaver line
- Sunday October 19 – no trains will run between Edmonton Green and Cheshunt. The L2 replacement bus goes between Enfield Town and Cheshunt, stopping at all the closed stations, plus Waltham Cross.
Windrush line
- Southern trains, which operates services using Windrush line railways, will not run between Norwood Junction / London Bridge and Balham (via Crystal Palace) / Tulse Hill on Sunday October 19.
