If you thought Tottenham was only good for tasty Turkish treats and the footy, think again, because the north London neighbourhood’s culture scene is on the up.

N15 locals may have spotted the debut of a new arts hub in the area. Founded by the late fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen, The Sarabande Foundation has converted a pair of Georgian grade II*-listed townhouses into 14 new workshops, each of which will be taken over by painters, sculptors, photographers, fashion designers and other creatives.

If that wasn’t enough to get the creative juices flowing, we’ve also caught wind of another new independent arts space in the area, this time dedicated to music.

Radial, a new grassroots venue set to host live music, listening events and talks, will open on September 5.

With capacity for 250-300 standing, or up to 80 seated, its events programme will range from intimate gigs to club nights. Plus, it also plans to offer workshops and ‘soundbased’ wellness classes.

The new venue is being launched by Ten87 Studios, which runs more than 60 recording studios and creative workspaces in the area. It’s worked with big names in the music biz throughout the years, including Fontaines DC, Wolf Alice, Sherelle and Mount Kimbie.

As for the vibe of the space itself, the design of its main performance room centres on a 10 point custom built sound system, with flexible Japanese-style loungers lining the walls. A separate bar will have inbuilt side tables and a set of speakers so you can buy a round without missing the music.

Radial will open on September 5 at 39b Markfield Rd, N15 4QA. Ahead of its official opening, Radial is running four one-off club nights in July and August. Check them out here.

Did you see that Stratford is getting a flashy new cultural quarter with live entertainment, art galleries and a new public piazza?
