Ever wondered what the best Middle Eastern restaurant in London is? Wonder no longer!
Time Out’s brand new list of the top 20 Middle Eastern restaurants in London for 2025 has been collated and written by Suzie Bakos, a Baghdad-born, London-raised writer and chef whose supper club The Little Sauce celebrates the flavours of her Iraqi heritage.
Bakos’ list includes Syrian, Kurdish, Palestinian and Lebanese cuisine from across London, and features restaurants based in Haringey, Camberwell, Finsbury Park, Ealing and Acton.
The number one spot? Well, that goes to Berenjak on Romilly Street in Soho. The Persian/Iranian restaurant opened in 2018, before launching a second site in Borough in 2022. Run by the JKS Group (who are also behind Trishna, Gymkhana, Hoppers, and Bao), the restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand recommendation.
Bakos praised Berenjak’s ‘Nostalgic-meets-elevated Iranian’ cuisine. She recommends the black hummus and kebabs: ‘one minced lamb koobideh, and jujeh, which comprises boneless chicken breast marinated in saffron, lemon and yoghurt, alongside an array of sides, such as the fried potatoes, saffron rice and torshi.
Other restaurants to make the list include Palestinian restaurant Akub in Notting Hill, family-run Kurdish spot Nandine in Camberwell, Mr Falafel in Shepherd’s Bush Market, and Lebanese Grill on New Kent Road.
