The UK has tonnes of beautiful walking trails, but many are not accessible by train. Unfortunately for Londoners, many of whom don’t have cars, accessing these hiking spots can be more challenging than attempting Snowdon in flip flops. Luckily, the outdoor retailer Blacks has just released a ranking of the 10 best walking trails in the UK that can be reached by train, and the number one spot is just two hours from London.
The Seven Sisters walk in East Sussex has been named Britain’s best hike accessible by train. Running between Eastbourne and Seaford, this 33-kilometre trail has views of some of the UK’s most dramatic cliffs and the rolling greenery of the South Downs National Park. You can access the walk from stations in both Eastbourne and Seaford, with trains running to both locations from London Victoria. You can find the route’s AllTrails guide here.

The third-best walk in Britain was also not far from London. Box Hill Circular, an eight-mile walk in Surrey, took the bronze prize for its views of lush, rolling hills, steep valleys and the odd quaint pub along the way. It’s accessed via Box Hill & Westhumble train station, which has services from London Victoria and Waterloo. Box Hill is also a good one for cyclists and was part of the 2012 Olympic road-cycling route.
