London’s gaming enthusiasts said an emotional farewell to popular video game bar Platform this weekend, as the chain announced that it has closed its doors for good.

Just five years after opening, the high-tech London bar ceased trading with immediate effect. Platform took to social media on Friday April 19 and issued a short-but-sweet statement. The brand said:

‘It is with a heavy heart to announce that Platform has ceased trading. Thank you to all of our loyal customers that have supported us for the last five years, we are truly grateful.’

The chain first opened in 2019, bringing social gaming to the streets of Shoreditch in a robust venue lit up by neon signs and colourful decor. Offering retro games, creative cocktails, private booths, and a host of playful puns, the OG venue received a warm welcome from the start of its game. The much-loved bar then levelled up as a second venue opened in Canary Wharf just last year.

Across both locations, visitors were encouraged to get competitive and put their gaming skills to the test. Platform was home to a host of iconic games, from Super Mario Bros to Just Dance. Guests could battle it out for 90-minutes in semi-private booths, with bottomless brunches and drinks packages on offer for some much-needed gaming fuel.

However, customers unknowingly put their controllers down for one last time as the gamers paradise announced its closure with immediate effect. The surprise statement was emotional for fans of the bar, who flocked to comment their final farewells before Platform lost its last life and turned off the lights for good.

London’s most expensive cup of coffee is for sale in Mayfair.

Like bars, but not video games? Here are some (very good) normal bars.
