K-pop and dystopian Netflix series aren’t the only Korean exports taking the UK by storm. Korean corn dogs have also been making waves, flooding #FoodTok and inspiring long Reddit threads on where to get the best ones.

While corndogs started life as a fairground snack in the US, the Korean version, which was dreamed up in the 1980s, takes the classic hot dog dipped in corn batter and then deep fried until golden and crispy, but adds fermented bread dough and a range of different coatings and toppings to create some unique and showstopping creations.

The crunchy dogs have become a ubiquitous street food staple over in Seoul, and the UK has come to love it too, largely thanks to Bunsik. The Korean street food chain launched in London in 2021 and has become known for its grab-and-go corn dogs and molten cheese pulls. You’ll find snaking queues outside its Leicester Square and Chinatown branches (there are also sites in Westfield Stratford, Earl’s Court, Embankment and Camden), full of punters all waiting to get their hands on dishes like the crunchy mozzarella corn dogs, or its kimbap, fried chicken and rice bowls.

Now, it’s opening a new joint in Brixton – its first site south of the river. Opening on May 15 on Brixton Road, the new site will sell all the classics Bunsik has become known for. Plus, they’ll be offering 50 percent off corndogs all day across its first two opening days, as well as giveaways for the first 100 customers to head there before 11am on May 15 and 16.

The offers will continue into the following week with a series of 50% off offers between May 16-20, including 50 percent off tteokbokki (May 16), 50% off fried chicken (May 17-18), and 50% off cupbap (May 19-20).

Bunsik Brixton opens on May 15 at 490 Brixton Road, SW9 8EQ. For more information, see here.
