It’s fair to say that the brains behind the Victoria and Albert Museum have been keeping busy of late. The V&A has unveiled not one but two new venues in the past couple of years – the treasure trove that is the V&A East Storehouse debuted in 2025, followed by its sister venue, the V&A East Museum, earlier this year.
While the V&A currently has no groundbreaking openings on the agenda for 2027 (as far as we know, anyway), its cultural calendar is well and truly chocka. The V&A has just announced its exhibition programme for next year, and everything from ’70s punk to hand-painted Indian fabrics dating back to the 1600s is on the docket. Here’s everything to look forward to next year at the V&As outposts in Kensington and Stratford

V&A South Kensington 2027 exhibitions
The Sex Pistols, The Specials, Joy Division, Wham! – the story of Punk to Pop (Mar 13 2027-Jan 2 2028), the OG V&A’s first 2027 exhibition, is told through the musicians’ art. It’ll explore how subcultures of the ’70s fuelled the anti-establishment DIY punk aesthetic, and the enduring influence it’s had on music, art and fashion in the decades since.
In the spring, the museum is getting its hands dirty, presenting works from British ceramics artists from the 1980s to today in Sculpture in Clay (May 29 2027-Feb 6 2028). Fired or unfired, it’ll explore how clay has been used to expand what we think of as sculpture, with works by artists including Jacqueline Poncelet, Antony Gormley and Edmund de Waal.
Rounding out the year, the Chintz exhibition (Sep 18 2027-Jun 4 2028), will weave through the 400-year history of the South Indian fabric which, according to the V&A, has been ‘loved, hated and continually rediscovered’. Fabrics from the museum’s archive will sit alongside those borrowed from the collection of Karun Thakar, a prolific textiles collector and researcher.
V&A East 2027 exhibitions
The newest addition to the V&A family, the East Museum opened in April 2026 with a debut exhibition on Black British music. Its second show, South Asia Now: Fashion. Art. Design. (Apr 24 2027-Jan 23 2028), delves into the contemporary creative scenes of Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka through 200 works of art, fashion, architecture and design.
More details on all of the newly announced exhibitions can be found on the V&A website here.
