Why is there a giant pickle on this east London rooftop?

Forget 30 St Mary Axe guys, there’s a new gherkin in town. A whopping eight-foot green one to be precise, protruding out from The Culpeper’s rooftop bar.

The brilliantly named Studio Stilton are behind the towering pickle, which was unveiled today, throwing piquant shade on its older, glassier sibling who’s trying to gherk-in on the action in the picture above.

As well as the fibreglass creation, which will provide the backdrop to the pub’s summer workshop series and alfresco dining offering, loads of the real deal will be growing merrily in the rooftop’s garden beds for the next few months, with the big fellas making their way into restaurant dishes and cocktails, and the little cucumbers being preserved and jarred for the winter months.
