The first Black Girl Fest, held last autumn, was the first event of its kind in the UK. Now we’re using Time Out as a platform to do what we do with Black Girl Fest: celebrate Black women and femme Londoners
Hi, we’re Nicole Crentsil and Paula Akpan. We're two friends from London and the co-founders of Black Girl Fest: the first arts and culture festival celebrating Black British women and femmes. This year’s event is on Saturday. When we announced it in August on Time Out’s website, tickets sold out in days. Now we’re bringing Black Girl Fest to everyone with this takeover issue in which you’ll find inspiring chats between trailblazing women from different generations, a guide to the thriving Black queer scene and Black Girl Fest picks in every section. We’d like to thank our contributors Niellah Arboine, Tanya Compas, Krystal Neuvill and Christina Nwabugo. It’s an exciting time to be a Black woman in London and this week we’re sharing why!
