Time Out says

Located at the base of the Third Street shopping district, the Santa Monica Hampton Inn & Suites provides dependable and comfortable amenities—think high thread count bedding and a in an upscale yet playful atmosphere.

The Hampton Inn is a chain hotel, meaning it’s probably not the most quirky or romantic getaway; accommodations are also supremely reliable, however, making it a safe (but still sophisticated) choice for tourists (particularly harried families) who want to remove unknowns from the vacation equation. This isn’t to say that the hotel is without personality: the lobby is playfully outfitted with contemporary sculptural furniture, accented with splashes of teal and graphic detailing. Here, you’ll find efficient service and all the expected amenities; rooms are clean and spacious, and come with smart TVs, free wifi and luxury bedding. Outside the rooms, there’s a fitness center, business facilities and a heated pool (in case the beach is too crowded for you). There’s also a complimentary beverage and breakfast station, and a 24-hour sundries store in the lobby, so you’ll never be stranded without your toothbrush. For a true SoCal experience, watch the sunset from the warmth of the Hampton’s poolside fire pit, then head into the neighborhood to explore Santa Monica’s world-renowned drinks and dining.

Location: Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade is a busy mix of office buildings, fitness studios, shops (big and boutique alike) and a range of dining. There are entertainment options at every price point, making the neighborhood great for travelers of all means, and the best part is, it’s all extremely walkable.

Nearby:

Bay Cities: Mere blocks from the thick of downtown Santa Monica’s chain restaurant row is this authentic Italian deli and bakery. Pack up a few Godmothers—the deli’s most famous sandwich, laden with savory meats like mortadella, coppa, ham, and salami—and a few cannolis for your beach picnic.

Forma: This cheese mecca offers am intimidating array of top-shelf formaggio; luckily, the staff is kind and knowledgeable enough to help diners determine exactly the right combination of dairy delights. There’s also a full menu of exquisitely crafted pastas, pizzas, mains and more, so your lactose intolerant friends will find something to love, too.

Pacific Park: The Santa Monica Pier’s rides and carnival games are geared towards kids, but even the most grown-up of adults can appreciate a romantic ride on the ferris wheel, or a spin on a restored 1920s wooden merry-go- round.

The Bungalow: This Ocean Avenue watering hole is the perfect balance of festive and laid-back, mixing casual activities like pool and ping-pong with some seriously sophisticated mezcal creations.

Good for: Travelers who want the reliability of a chain hotel with the luxury of an upscale establishment would do well to book with the Hampton Inn & Suites; given the spacious accommodations and proximity to family-friendly activities like the pier and boardwalk, parents in particular can please their offspring and enjoy some genuine R&R, too.

Amenities: Pool, free wifi, shop, gym, laundry service, concierge

Time Out tip: Book a west-facing room and take in stunning views from your private balcony when the sun sets over the Pacific.
