Holbox, Providence, Somni and Kato all landed on North America’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2026.

Los Angeles has never exactly suffered from a lack of culinary confidence. After all, strip-mall tasting menus here become international sensations and some of the continent's most sought-after reservations hide behind surprisingly modest facades.
Now, North America's 50 Best Restaurants has given Angelenos even more bragging rights. The annual ranking of the continent's top dining destinations was unveiled this week and four Los Angeles restaurants landed on the coveted Top 50 list.
The highest-ranked Los Angeles entry is Holbox, which landed at No. 26 overall. Located inside South Central's Mercado La Paloma, chef Gilberto Cetina's seafood-focused restaurant has become one of the city's greatest success stories. Cetina learned to cook alongside his father at nearby Chichén Itza before opening Holbox in 2017. Today, diners enjoy ceviches, aguachiles, tacos and seafood tostadas that draw inspiration from his childhood summers on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. The restaurant's tasting menu has become one of the hottest reservations in town, proving that some of North America's best food can still be found inside a bustling community market.
Not far behind is Providence at No. 32. For more than two decades, chef Michael Cimarusti's Melrose Avenue institution has served as the gold standard for fine dining in Los Angeles. Known for its seafood-driven tasting menus, Providence continues to evolve through seasonal ingredients, sustainable sourcing and meticulous technique. The restaurant's yacht-inspired dining room and famously polished service have helped it remain one of the city's top special-occasion destinations.
Then there's Somni, which arrived at No. 46. Chef Aitor Zabala's reborn tasting-menu restaurant has an intimate 14-seat counter, surreal design touches and elaborate modernist dishes that make up one of the most theatrical dining experiences anywhere in North America. (Considering the original Somni closed during the pandemic, its return—and rapid ascent back onto major rankings—has been remarkable.)
Rounding out the list is Kato at No. 49. Chef Jon Yao's Taiwanese American tasting menu has earned national acclaim for turning familiar flavors into deeply personal dishes. Since moving into its current home at the historic Terminal Mart, Kato has become one of the city's most influential restaurants, with Yao earning the James Beard Award for Best Chef: California in 2025.
The four restaurants highlight the remarkable range of Los Angeles dining right now—from a seafood counter inside a community marketplace to some of the most ambitious tasting menus on the continent.
