Those familiar with the Maribyrnong will be familiar with Jack's Magazine, the elongated late 19th-century bluestone buildings used to store munitions. Located within man-made trenches, the buildings were only decommissioned in the 1990s; but this May they'll be used once again for a one-day-only, site-specific art installation called Shadowland.
Shadowland combines live sound art performances (including a secret "noise choir") with virtual reality experiences, visual art, video, photography and installation art in a way that reflects the historic site itself. You'll be immersed in almost complete darkness and will have to rely on your ears to guide you through the work – all in all, it's set to be quite the ghostly experience.
The event is running as part of Stargazed Festival and will also be the last chance for the public to visit the magazine before it passes from public to private hands.
