Time Out says

3 out of 5 stars

A word of warning: Don't sit in the first few rows, unless you're ready for participation

Nikki Britton's 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival show was an hour-long show designed for children. This show is... very much not.

"Beautiful dick, sir," she says to an audience, er, member. "Very nice dick. The gentleman back there, yes, your dick is also first class. Lovely dick to you, sir." She's unapologetically filthy, working blue as she tells the story of an Italian holiday gone wrong.

The material is good, aided by an audiovisual presentation of her trip, but Britton's at her best when she goes off script. She talks to the audience quite a lot, which is uncomfortable for those in the first few rows and a treat for everyone else. It breaks up the flow, but that's not really a problem, as the narrative is loose. Britton's improvisational skills are sharp, and she flits from person to person, asking questions and making observations (and the person involved uncomfortable). She's never cruel, and all of her interactions are well-intentioned, if cringe-inducing for her interlocutors.

Her holiday story is not in and of itself riveting, but she's a good storyteller, and her slides and videos aid in the narrative. It's a solid night of comedy, with constant laughs but no absolutely out-of-control moments. Just make sure you do not bring your kids.
