Bells Beach – located near the towns of Torquay and Jan Juc – is the jewel of the Victorian Surf Coast. Every year since 1962 surfers have descended on the famous beach at Easter to participate in the Rip Curl Pro. The breaks here are big and scary – it's no place for nippers to swim.
Having said that, watching the pros effortlessly carve up the waves is a fantastic way to spend your Easter. The Pro is part of the World Surfing Tour and previous winners include Sally Fitzgibbons, Stephanie Gilmore, Kelly Slater, Mark Occhilupo and everyone's favourite shark pugilist Mick Fanning.
Make sure to bring some woolies and wet weather gear – the weather on the Surf Coast is notoriously temperamental.
