You wouldn’t normally pair Courtney Love and Lindy Chamberlain, but the two have more in common than you might think. That’s the premise of Bridget Mackey’s ambitious new play, which brings the two women together to explore the ways in which women can never go unscrutinised in the public eye. Love/Chamberlain sees the women meet on a remote desert highway; Courtney is mourning the death of her partner Kurt Cobain, Lindy is still consumed by grief over the disappearance of her daughter Azaria more than a decade before. Both are unjustly accused of murder, and villified by the public for a crime they didn’t commit. “[The play] explores an imagined world where, through fate or coincidence, these two women keep returning to each other for guidance, despite their apparent differences,” explains Mackey. Directed by Cathy Hunt, it stars Dana Miltins as Lindy and Rebekah Hill as Courtney.
