Time Out says

This one-man show is an intimate exploration of co-director Wang Chong’s creative process

One of the first productions of Malthouse Theatre’s 2023 program, Made in China 2.0 is a part pop culture lecture, part dramatic performance.

A collaboration between Emma Valente and Wang Chong – one of Beijing’s most significant theatre directors – Made in China 2.0 is an intimate exploration of Chong’s creative process for making cutting-edge art back home and abroad, during uncertain times.

Immersive, funny and brilliantly crafted, Wang explores the role of the artist and provocateur and is set to get audiences talking. This show comes to the Malthouse after the sell-out success of Little Emperors in 2017, so you know you're in for a thought-provoking night.

Wang Chong graduated from Beijing University and founded Théatre du Rêve Expérimental in 2008, touring acclaimed performances around China. He has directed works drawing upon Shakespeare and Ibsen as well as Chinese writers, and has worked with influential directors Lin Zhaohua and Robert Wilson. Earlier this year Made in China 2.0 enjoyed a sold-out and extended season at ArtsEmerson, Boston.

Made in China 2.0 will run at the Malthouse Theatre from February 28 to March 19, 2023. Tickets are on sale now.
