Summer is only just getting started in Melbourne’s seaside locale of Frankston, where you’ll find an exciting blend of cultural, creative and culinary experiences. Celebrate the best of summer at an epic waterfront festival with Touch Sensitive and The Grogans, take part in the Frankston Swim Classic, catch a movie under the stars at the Stellar Short Film Festival, or discover incredible street art on a twilight walking tour. Here’s everything you need to add to your summer bucket list.

Waterfront Festival

The foreshore is set to come alive when the free, annual Waterfront Festival hits Frankston on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11. With pumping concerts, kids entertainment, rides, food trucks and more, this event is the complete celebration of summer. In 2024, the star-studded music line-up sees festival vibe makers Touch Sensitive and The Grogans take the stage alongside Frankston indie darlings The Belair Lip Bombs and the explosive 12-piece Sunshine and Disco Faith Choir

The Waterfront Festival’s family-friendly, carnival-like atmosphere will be complete with all your favourite amusement rides, including a Ferris wheel delivering Insta-worthy snaps of the bay. More than 30 of the tastiest global food trucks will be there to fuel your appetites, with a Garden Bar full of local sips provided by local wineries and breweries. Make sure to stick around for the waterfront fireworks on Saturday at 9.45pm, and if you can’t get enough of the fun, why not even sign up for the first-ever open-water Frankston Swim Classic on Saturday morning. Want to make a weekend of it? There’ll also be a Dive in Cinema on the Friday night. Summer vibes delivered.

Stellar Short Film Festival

If you’re after a special summer night out with friends, then head to the Stellar Short Film Festival. Returning for its fifth year, Stellar will spotlight 12 of the greatest Aussie short films from 2023, which have been shortlisted from the winners of more than 75 film festivals around the country. The best part is that you get to sit back and relax under the stars in the McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery natural amphitheatre, surrounded by beautiful sculptures and native bushland. You can grab tickets to this boutique film event going down on Saturday, March 2 at 5pm here.

Twilight Street Art Tours

Immerse yourself in Frankston’s urban culture by joining a highly popular 90-minute twilight street art walking tour. Splashed across the city’s buildings and laneways are more than 70 outdoor murals that have been created by both local and international artists, including Adnate, Smug, Sofles and Julian Clavijo. These award-winning twilight tours are run by local guides every Friday at 6.30pm and for $15, you’ll also receive a non-alcoholic drink along the way.

If you’re there on Friday, January 19, then make sure to also visit the Frankston Sunset Twilight Market on the Pier Promenade from 5-9pm.
