Catch some of the best writers in conversation on a range of topics from American prisons to language to feminism at the Wheeler Centre

The Wheeler Centre has announced the line-up of its annual Mayhem event series which will feature some of the world’s best writers. The series will run from Tuesday, April 23 to Tuesday, May 14, and will showcase Pulitzer-winners, eminent historians, poets, rappers and more.

If you’re interested in American institutions, crime and punishment, Rachel Kushner will be discussing it all on Tuesday, April 30, following her latest novel The Mars Room which explores the American prison system.  

Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah’s debut novel Friday Black has earned an endorsement from Roxane Gay and the New York Times bestseller list and he is coming to Mayhem to speak about his book on Thursday, May 2.  

You can catch feminist powerhouse Meg Wolitzer, the acclaimed author of The Wife which was adapted to screen with Glenn Close, discussing her amazing career with Brodie Lancaster on Monday, May 6.

Akala can be called many things – a BAFTA-winning hip-hop artist, a poet, historian, activist, author and polemicist. On Tuesday, May 7, he’ll discuss his varies skills as a writer, his ambitions for his work and why the rules are glaringly outdated.

With a Pulitzer Prize win and six months on the New York Times bestseller list under his belt for his book Less, Andrew Sean Greer will talk about ways in which writing can express our hunger for language, for the world and each other on Thursday, May 9.

Mary Norris will be chatting about her travels through Greek language, culture and art on Monday, May 13, and Dhonielle Clayton talking about creating a more inclusive and equitable literary culture on Wednesday, May 1. Both these sessions are free of charge.
