If you want a cheap movie night out where you choose the snacks and enjoy a range of movies in the open-air with family or friends—or to relive the 1950s—then you need a drive-in theatre around Montreal. There aren't many to choose from in and near the city, but what is available provides all the entertainments you need. They offer completely different experiences from brick-and-mortar movie theatres in Montreal with massive screens and direct sound in both languages broadcasted by radio. It's a unique experience that's just as good for upping your dating game—followed by a trip to one of the best romantic restaurants in Montreal—as it is one of the best things to do with kids in Montreal.

Claiming to be the "biggest and most modern" drive-theatre of its kind in Canada—and we're not going to dispute that—the multiplex of drive-in theatres from the Mathers Group in Saint-Eustache is like nothing else. And it’s just a half-hour’s drive from the city centre! Having been around since 1971, it's the one theatre that's had skin in the game the longest. If you're going for the night, grab some food or a classic milkshake from the Mathers restaurant nearby, or make a day of it and visit its open-air market in the summer; it's one of the best flea markets in Montreal.

Located an hour and half's drive from the downtown core, Ciné-Parc Orford has experienced a lot of renewed interest in recent years, especially since they hosted Vroom!, an immersive and psychedelic drive-in experience created by Moment Factory. In addition to events like that, they regularly screen movies in French with the occasional English title coming up. All told, the offerings at this drive-in lean a little more towards entertaining the kids—or your inner child, depending on how you look at it.

Located an hour from the city, this drive-in theatre sports two screens and screens a lot of titles on a regular basis for both adults and kids. While they only screen their movies in French, we're going to assume that most Montrealers reading this could follow along or use it as an opportunity to learn a little more of Quebec's mother tongue. With their on-site restaurant, you'll easily find there's nothing better than a movie on a huge screen and a poutine in your hand.

What's a ski hill to do when it's not coated in fresh snow? This is your answer. Operating in the Laurentians seven days a week every night at 7PM, the nearly two-hour drive might make it seem like a huge endeavour, but treating it as part of one of the best scenic day trips near Montreal make the trip worth it, especially when there's a proper casse-croûte to order burgers, fries and poutine from a restaurant that brings everything out to your car. In terms of your language of choice, it's best to check ahead to see if they're screening what you want.
